Résumé Writer
Laurie J. James has been writing and critiquing résumés professionally since 1986. She has worked both with industry career professionals and job seekers both in the United States and internationally.
She opened her résumé writing business (Just Your Type, Inc.) in the mid 1980s to assist family and friends with their technical writing needs. This quickly led to résumés and career coaching.
As the job market changed, so did Laurie’s focus. She began to notice that qualified job applicants needed coaching assistance with interviewing and basic career direction. So she started researching her industry.
What she found was that there were no international résumé writing standards in place to keep up with the internet and job seekers. So she co-founded the Professional Résumé Writing and Research Association (PRWRA) in 2000 to provide a venue for global career professionals to access educational, networking and personal / professional development opportunities in the careers industry. Since its inception, the association has continued to grow from a résumé association to that of an innovative and comprehensive, multi-discipline career association that has embraced all types of career professionals from around the world. This association has adopted a new name - Career Directors International (CDI) - in order to provide an accurate portrayal of the depth and breadth of the association’s memberships and benefits.
Laurie retired from the career industry in 2005. Because of the changing workplace and our global economy, however, Laurie is now out of retirement to help job seekers.
